With a vision for the future and a mission to offer families an affordable alternative to the corporately owned funeral homes in our area, Rex opened the doors to Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care in March of 2024.

No stranger to funeral and cremation care, Rex began his career with Pollock-Best Funeral Home in February of 2000 and worked with them until they were acquired by a large corporation in 2014. During his time with Pollock-Best, Rex had the opportunity to serve his apprenticeship under the leadership of longtime New Bern funeral director, Tommy Best. Rex graduated from the School of Funeral Service at Fayetteville Technical College in May of 2002 and became licensed with the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service the following month. He has served families ever since, providing his unique brand of care and compassion that people have come to love. In 2004, Rex became the manager of Pollock-Best Funeral Home and thrived in that role for the duration of his tenure.

In 2016, Rex accepted the role of Managing Director at Cotten Funeral Home and proudly led the location until he left to begin Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care. Having worked for the largest death care company in the world, Rex understands the NEED for quality, locally-owned, and affordable funeral and cremation care in New Bern and the surrounding area. Rex is a compassionate and caring individual who takes the time to carefully listen to those he serves and gently guides them through the funeral and cremation planning in such a way that truly honors your loved ones.
