Ray Gaskins, Jr.

Funeral Assistant

Born and raised in New Bern, Ray has deep roots in the community he proudly serves. Growing up with an “old school” upbringing, he learned the importance of faith in God, hard work, and treating others with respect; values that continue to guide both his personal life and professional calling today.
With almost 30 years of service with the Craven County Department of Transportation, Ray built a career grounded in dedication, reliability, and service to others. However, he felt a deeper calling—one that led him into the funeral service field. For him, this work is more than a profession; it is a ministry. He considers it a true honor to walk alongside families during some of life’s most difficult moments, offering comfort, compassion, and care when it is needed most.

As a member of a family-owned funeral home, Ray values the close-knit, personal approach to serving others. He finds the greatest fulfillment in helping families feel supported and cared for, even in their darkest hours, and hopes that each family leaves with a sense of peace and genuine compassion.
Known for his kind-hearted spirit, Ray brings warmth, sincerity, and empathy to every interaction. He strives to be a light in difficult times, allowing his faith to guide his actions and reflect God’s love to those he serves.

Outside of his work, Ray is deeply involved in the community. He volunteers with the Tri Community Fire Department, serves on the Board of Directors for the local Babe Ruth Association, and is an active member of Highland Park Church. His life is rooted in service—both to his community and his faith.
He has been married to his wife, April, for five years and is a proud father to two sons and one daughter. Together, they enjoy life surrounded by a farm full of animals. In his free time, he loves hunting, fishing, playing guitar and mandolin, spending quality time with his family, and spending time with the Lord in the outdoors.

Above all, Ray finds his greatest joy in his faith and his family. He lives by the words of Matthew 7:12: “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them.” This guiding principle is reflected in the care and compassion he extends to every family he serves.

Three words that describe him best: Faithful, Compassionate, Dedicated

What he hopes families remember most: That they were truly cared for and not alone.
