Myra Thomas brings a lifetime of dedication, compassion, and strong community ties to her role at Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care. Raised in Craven County on a farm, Myra grew up in a hardworking family with wonderful parents who instilled in her the values of commitment, kindness, and service to others—principles that continue to guide her today.
Myra spent over four decades serving her community through her career with First Citizens Bank, where she worked for 43 years before retiring. Throughout that time, she built lasting relationships and became a familiar, trusted presence to many families in the area. Her connection to Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care is deeply personal—having known Rex Bennett since he was a child and worked alongside his mother at the bank, Myra was drawn to the funeral home because of that longstanding relationship and the compassionate, personal approach she sees reflected in its care for families.
In her role, Myra finds great fulfillment in supporting families during some of life’s most difficult moments. She values the opportunity to meet new people, offer comfort, and help others feel at ease. Her goal is for every family she serves to feel a sense of peace, knowing they are cared for with genuine compassion and understanding.
A woman of strong faith, Myra is an active member of Highland Park Christian Church and credits her beliefs as a guiding force in her work. She believes that faith and compassion go hand in hand, especially in a ministry-centered field like funeral service.
Outside of work, Myra enjoys spending time with her two sons, who live in New Bern, as well as her close-knit church family and friends. She also finds joy in working in her yard, a reflection of her roots and her appreciation for simple, meaningful moments.
With her warm spirit, deep community connections, and heartfelt desire to serve others, Myra is a valued part of the Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care team.
