William Winter

William Francis Winter, known affectionately as Bill to all who knew him, passed away on August 21, 2024. Born on September 5, 1962, in New Jersey, Bill was a man of wit, love, humor, and resilience. His enduring spirit touched the lives of everyone he met.

Bill was a devoted husband to Kelli Winter, with whom he spent 37 wonderful years in marriage. After growing up in Keansburg, New Jersey, he found his home in New Bern, North Carolina, where he lived for the past 20 years. He loved nothing more than spending time on his front porch, watching the world go by, and spending time with his grandchildren, who knew him as "Poppy," a title he embraced with all of his heart. Bill also enjoyed coaching teams with the New Bern Babe Ruth and Crystal Coast Senior Babe Ruth Leagues.

Known for his tenacity, Bill never let pain get the best of him. His resilience was a testament to his strength and love for life. His family was his world; his love for them was evident in every action he took. His life was a living example of a verse from the Bible, Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kelli; sons, Jason Winter (Megan) and Michael Winter and his wife Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Kristin Hayes; sisters, Martha, Lori Ryan (Steven), Susan Winter, Margaret Winter, and Elizabeth Merkel; his brother, Jimmy Winter; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mikey, Brian, Liam Winter, and Hunter Hayes. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Winter, his mother, Mary Winter, his sons, Matthew Winter and David Winter; and his brother, Robert Winter.

Bill's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and laughter. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
