William "Billy" Wiley

–

Ernul, North Carolina

William "Billy" Ray Wiley, known by family and friends as "Billy," was born on August 3, 1957, in New Bern, NC. Billy was a loyal son, an expert auto body mechanic, and a passionate fisherman. His life was marked by a quiet dedication to his craft, his loved ones, and his community. Born and raised in the Askins community, Billy called this place home for the majority of his life.

Billy learned the art of auto body repair from his father, Milton Wiley, joining him in the family business, Wiley's Body Shop. His dedication and skill led him to continue his career in auto body work, using his skills at E&J Automotive in New Bern and other body shops in the area. However, it was fishing that truly captured Billy's heart. What started as a hobby eventually turned into a livelihood, as Billy began selling his catches to local fish markets and crab houses. Yet, his love for fishing wasn't merely about making a living; for Billy, any opportunity to pick up a fishing rod was a call he could never resist. His nephews shared memories of fishing trips and how Billy taught them so much about it. A cousin told stories of how he had helped him get a truck and that he had helped a friend get a car.

Behind his rough exterior and sometimes gruff demeanor, Billy was a kind-hearted and loyal individual. A man of few words, he often kept to himself, but if you were fortunate enough to be liked by Billy, his loyalty was unwavering. He dedicated much of his time and care to his mother, Betty Wiley, before her passing. Billy's sisters, Connie Wiley Sawyer and Vicky Wiley Saulter (Ronnie) survive him. He is also survived by nephews, Rex "Yogi" Earl Casper, Jr. and Darrin Bean Casper; great niece, Ashlyn Casper Robinson; great nephews, Dylan and Camden Casper. He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Betty Wiley.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Robinson Family Cemetery, 4460 US HWY 17, Ernul, NC 28527 with Pastor Rex Bennett officiating.

Billy's life was characteristically understated, yet he left a lasting impact on those who knew him. His dedication, loyalty, and passion will be remembered and celebrated. We invite family and friends to share memories and upload photos of Billy to the memorial page. His story is not just one of a life lived, but of a life well-lived, a life that touched others, and a life that will continue to be remembered.
