Willerine Emma Russell Obituary (1944 - 2025)

Willerine Emma Russell, beloved sweetheart, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who was born November 8th 1944 passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18th, in her home, in the arms of Kristen while holding Bill’s hand. Willerine and Bill began as sweethearts for 4 years before sharing a beautiful marriage of 63 years. 67 years together; a true testament to their love and dedication. She is survived by her son, Brian Russell; granddaughters, Hollie Cerwonka and Sophia Jimenez; great-grandchildren, Brilea, Lincoln, and Declan; as well as her sister, Wona Malo, and brother, William Taylor. A woman of many talents, Willerine found joy in crafting, sewing and quilting, beading and jewelry making. She approached life with creativity and patience, always finding ways to make beauty with her hands and share it around her home and with those she loved. As a Marine Corps wife, she exemplified strength and resilience, managing the home and raising Brian and Kristen during Bill’s many deployments. Her adaptability and unwavering spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. Willerine’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She cherished her time in Bible study and the lifelong friendships she formed there. Her warmth, kindness, and faith-filled heart touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed, and her absence will forever be felt by her family and friends. A celebration of Willerine’s life will be held this fall at the family home in Asheville, North Carolina.
