Valerie Lisenby Potter

With sadness, we share the passing of Valerie Lisenby Potter, on November 17, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Aileen Lisenby. She is survived by her son, William Potter (Deserae); her daughter, Rachel Parsons (Aaron); and her granddaughter, Iris Potter. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Raicht, her nieces Jennifer Howard and Krislyn Flint, and their families.

Valerie was born on November 3, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was proud to call Newport, North Carolina, her home. A graduate of Havelock High School, class of ’74. Valerie enjoyed her career as an X-ray technician, specializing in mammography. While treasuring her time spent out west, the majority of her working years were spent at MCAS Cherry Point.

She loved horseback riding, days at the beach, her dog, and traveling. Valerie cherished friendship and had many lifelong friends. She valued her independence and chose a life that remained authentic to who she was.

Honoring her wishes, there will be no formal service. Her ashes will be spread from the back of a galloping horse across an open field, a tribute to the freedom and joy she found in riding.

She will be remembered with warmth and affection by those who knew her and by the family who carries her memory forward.
