Theodora "Teddy" Apostle Obituary (1952 - 2024)

The world lost a radiant soul, Theodora "Teddy" Apostle, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Born on December 8, 1952, in Chicago, IL, Teddy was known by all for her compassionate and loving spirit. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she dedicated her life to caring for others, both in her professional and personal lives. As novelist Leo Buscaglia once said, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." In every sense, Teddy embodied this sentiment. Teddy's passion for caregiving was a testament to her dedicated and loving nature. She started her journey in Chicago, and in 1980, relocated to Maine where she operated her own business caring for seniors. Teddy's devotion to her work never waned, even after her move to New Bern, NC in 2007. She continued to serve others at the CarolinaEast Medical Center until her diagnosis with cancer, often working extra hours and shifts so that others could rest. She was more than just a medical professional; she was a beacon of hope and comfort for those who needed it the most. Outside of her career, Teddy found joy in the simplicity of nature. She was the President of the Lakeside Garden Club in Bridgeton, Maine, and cherished the tranquility of gardening, especially erecting and maintaining birdhouses in her backyard. Her love for animals was unparalleled, and her pets found a loving home in her arms. Teddy was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Lawrence "Larry" Deam, a caring sister to her brothers, Tom and Demetry Apostle, and a doting aunt to her nephews, Thomas, Zack, and Adam. Teddy also cared deeply for her stepchildren, Mandy, Angela, Larry Jr., Andrew and David. Sadly, Larry Jr., Andrew, and David preceded her in death. Teddy was the rock of her family, a source of unwavering love and strength. Her parents, Constantine and Cleopatra Apostle, preceded her in death as well. Teddy’s life was a testament to the quote from Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." She did small things with immense love every day, touching the lives of all who were fortunate to know her. Teddy's family will have a celebration of her life at a later date.
