Cove City, North Carolina
Ruth McCoy Potter, born on July 3, 1930, was a beloved figure in Cove City, where she spent all her life nurturing her family and community. A loving mother, a generous friend, and a supportive pillar of her community, Ruth's dedication to her faith and to her family was a testament to her caring and thoughtful nature.
Her caring spirit was evident in her everyday life, as she embodied the true essence of a homemaker. Ruth sewed clothes for her daughters, kept a flourishing garden, and cooked meals that brought her family together. Her home was an inviting sanctuary, always filled with love and warmth. Her generosity extended beyond her family as she was a longtime member of Cove City Christian Church and also enjoyed attending services at Cove City Missionary Baptist Church. Ruth's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she passionately shared the love of Jesus with her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her loving children, Jane McCoy (David) and Ward McCoy (Darlene); her cherished grandchildren, Scott Murphy (Rachel), Tracy Rouse (David), Taylor Terrell (Hayden), Ethan Witt and Sean McCoy (Hope); nine great granchildren; as well as her stepdaughter, Jackie Randall (Chris).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Sadie Civils; her husband of 55 years, Willis McCoy and also her late husband, Ralph Potter; daughter, Polly Stamey; and her sisters, Rachel Smith and Mildred Lane.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'" (Proverbs 31:28-29). Ruth Potter was indeed a woman who surpassed all, and her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will continue to ripple through the lives of those she touched.
