Raymond Darrel “Randy” Wood, Jr.

With a quiet strength that defined his character, Raymond Darrel “Randy” Wood, Jr., born on November 1, 1952, in Lenoir County, passed away on February 13, 2026. Known affectionately to his family and friends as Randy, he was a resilient man who cherished his family, dedicated his life to his passions, and was always ready to share his talents with others.

Randy lived practically his entire life in Cove City, and was a man of phenomenal talent. Building was his passion and his perfectionist nature was evident in every structure he built and remodeled. He had an uncanny ability to calculate precise measurements, ensuring every project was perfectly square and meticulously executed. Beyond his professional achievements, Randy's dedication spilled over into his personal life. He loved to fish and hunt, often accompanied by his faithful dog on rides around the community. These rides often led to his son Kevin's home, where they would relax in the garage, sharing stories about hunting, fishing, and life's many adventures. Ever the consummate gardener, Randy took immense pride in his vegetable garden, tending to it with the same precision he applied to his construction projects. A member of Spring Garden Baptist Church, he was also a man of unwavering faith in Christ.

But above all his accomplishments, what mattered most to Randy was his family. He was a dedicated husband to his wife of 44 years, Terry Carraway Wood; a loving father to Kevin Wood (Crystal), Amber Wood, and his late son, Christopher Wood; a caring brother to his sisters, Beth Wood Sparks (Sam) and Kathy Wood Jarman (Gary) and to his brother, Scott Wood (Mary Louise); and an awesome granddad to his grandkids, Jacob, Hunter, and Maddi. Randy was also a dedicated son to his late parents, Raymond Sr. and Betty Jo Wood. His quiet strength was a testament to his resilience, and his love for his family was unwavering. His life was a beautiful example of dedication, talent, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 19th at Wintergreen Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Friday, February 20th at Wintergreen Free Will Baptist Church with Pastors David McAnelly and Mike Scott officiating. Randy will be laid to rest following the service at the Wood Family Cemetery.
