Matthew "Matt" Thomas Obituary (1984 - 2025)

Matthew Theodore Thomas, affectionately known as "Bubba" by his closest family and "Matt" by his friends, was born in the historic city of St. Augustine, FL, on April 10, 1984. He was a smart, funny, and generous man, known for his knack of bringing joy and laughter to any room he entered. Matt lived life with an infectious enthusiasm and a spirit that was truly captivating. He was a man of many talents, and his ability to see potential in what others might dismiss as ordinary was one of his most remarkable qualities. As Albert Einstein once said, "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination." Matt had an abundance of both. Matt resided in Havelock, North Carolina, where he worked as a handyman, a role that truly allowed him to flex his creative muscles. He was a jack of all trades, a self-taught artist, and a tinkerer who loved working with his hands. Whether he was riding four-wheelers, doing tricks on his bike, or bringing old cars back to life, Matt took great pride in everything he did. His love for Camaros and Firebirds was legendary among those who knew him. His ability to take an engine apart and put it back together, his skills in painting and stucco work, were all testaments to his ingenuity and craftsmanship. He was a man who could see treasure where others saw trash, and he had the talent to bring his visions to life. Matt was a generous soul who took great joy in helping others. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his existence. He is survived by his children, Mattilyn Thomas, Ellsworth "Teddy" Thomas, Mattison Thomas, Rebel William Thomas, Remy Woods Thomas, and Revelin Matthew Thomas; his siblings, Teddy Thomas, Gage Thomas, Amanda Castro, and Elizabeth Olsen; his longtime girlfriend, who he affectionately called his “ol’ lady,” Allison Brayboy; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth Thomas and Betty Edwards. His family was what mattered most to him, and he will be remembered for his kind heart, his quick wit, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
