New Bern, North Carolina
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria J. Snyder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt MiMi to her nieces and nephews. Born on May 1, 1946, in Naples, Italy, Maria's kind and loving spirit and her unwavering devotion to those she loved made her a beacon of joy to all who knew her. Known for being both a 'firecracker' and an empathetic soul, Maria was quick to share her warmth, generosity, and her signature spicy humor with family, friends, and individuals lucky enough to cross her path. Over the course of her life, she persevered through struggles with a sense of strength and resilience.
Maria's journey led her from her birthplace in Naples to Westchester County, New York where she lived most of her life. Most recently, she was able to relocate to New Bern, NC to reside with her daughter. A skilled bookkeeper by trade, she first lent her talents to office management before retiring to assist her husband in his business and later her daughter in the real estate industry. Her work was a testament to her dedication and love for her family, and her retirement was a well-earned rest. However, Maria's true passion lay outside the office. A spirited lover of travel, Maria's adventurous heart found joy in the journey. Be it a luxurious cruise, a family vacation at LBI, or a competitive game of blackjack, Maria embraced life with open arms. Her Saturday family lunches, evening wine, the Hallmark Chanel and game show marathons were the simple pleasures that brought her profound happiness.
Maria's life was a vibrant tapestry of laughter, love, and memories, woven together by the people she held dear. Her life's greatest accomplishment was her family, who remained at the very heart of her world. Maria is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Albrecht; her daughter, Annmarie Conta; her grandsons, David Conta and Alex Conta; her sisters, Rosanna Bell (Stanley) and Giovanna Maxwell (Harold); and her many nieces and nephews. She rejoins her mother, Anna Leggio; her sister, Matilda Garson; and her brother, Joseph Leggio in celestial peace. Maria's legacy is a testament to a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her lively spirit, warm heart, and loving memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held with family and friends at 10:30am at Saint Barnabas Church in Irvington, NY on June 13, 2026.
We encourage everyone who was touched by Maria's life to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Each shared memory serves to celebrate Maria's life and the indelible imprint she left on our hearts.
