New Bern, North Carolina

Luis Emilio Ayala, known affectionately as Lou, passed away on March 23, 2024. Born on November 30, 1972, in Washington D.C., Luis was a charismatic and loving individual who was always there to offer his support to those in need. His quick wit and infectious spirit will be remembered by all who had the fortune of knowing him.

Luis was a decorated veteran of the United States Army and the 82nd Airborne Division. He served with distinction in communications, and was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, United Nations Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon and also was a proud holder of German jump wings. After leaving the service, Luis continued his dedication to his country as an I.T. Specialist with the Department of Defense. His hard work and lasting contribution to the ISEM Program at NASA showcased his commitment to excellence and service. As Winston Churchill famously said, Luis embodied this spirit through his service to his country and his unwavering support of his family and friends.

In his personal life, Luis was passionate about his hobbies, which included golf, chess, flying drones, fishing, playing poker, gaming, riding ATVs, and playing guitar. He was a man of many talents, but what mattered most to Luis were his family and friends, especially his sons, Daniel and Samuel, and his life partner, Nadine. He was also survived by his brothers Marco and Juan Carlos. Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Luis Carlos and Mary Estela Ayala. Luis was not just a loving partner and father, but also a supportive brother and friend. His charisma and wit brought joy into the lives of many and will be sorely missed.

We invite all those who knew and loved Luis to share their memories and photos on his memorial page. His life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and service. May his memory continue to inspire us all.
