Kelly Hall McGrath, born on the joyous day of December 25, 1979, in Fayetteville, NC, lived her life as a radiant beacon of love and adventure. Known for her infectious smile, Kelly was a woman who embraced life's opportunities with open arms and an open heart. She was a caring daughter, a loving wife, and a devoted mother, who left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her. Kelly lived her 45 years on this earth to the fullest, touching the lives of many with her kindness, her vivacious spirit, and her remarkable strength.
Raised in Fayetteville, where she was once crowned "Little Miss Fayetteville," Kelly later journeyed to Colorado, and eventually to New Bern, NC, where she became a beloved figure in her community. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for theme parks, beach outings, and even skydiving. Every adventure she embarked upon was shared with her supportive husband, Eric Tunby, whose return home each day would light up her world with joy. Always sporting her signature smile, Kelly's positive outlook on life was catching. She was known for her unwavering kindness, her ability to befriend anyone she met, and, most notably, her deep love for her family, especially her daughter Kaylei, who she adored, and her treasured cat, Prince.
Kelly's thoughtful nature shone through in her career as well. Prior to becoming a substitute teacher, she worked as a hairstylist for 20 years, a job she relished as it allowed her to connect with people on a personal level. Her transition into education saw her become a pillar of support for the children of Craven County, especially those with special needs. She adored these children and was deeply committed to their wellbeing. A faithful attendee of the Latitude Church in New Bern, Kelly lived out the Christian teaching of "love thy neighbor as thyself" (Mark 12:31) through her compassionate deeds and loving heart.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Tunby; her daughters, Kaylei Ann McGrath and Trinity Faith Tunby; her mother, Carolyn Ward; her brothers, Zachary Keisler (Alison) and William E. Hall, II (Jennifer); sister-in-law, Dawn Isbell; and her nieces and nephews, Thomas Keisler, Madison Johnson, Jordan Johnson, and Juliette Briceno. Kelly was preceded in death by her father, William “Billy” Hall and her sister, Amy Hall. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the joy of adventure, and the beauty of kindness. As we remember Kelly, let us emulate her loving, supportive, and thoughtful nature, and carry her radiant spirit within our hearts.
