Jane Abbott

–

New Bern, North Carolina

Jane Ellen Abbott, affectionately known as Jane, passed on June 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and adventure that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on November 23, 1951, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Jane was a radiant soul who brought light to every corner of her world. As Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive", and Jane lived her life with this adventurous spirit, sailing the east coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, the British Virgin Islands, and the Florida Keys with her devoted husband, Richard Abbott.

Jane was a dedicated and skilled stone mason, her works of art gracing many homes and buildings. She poured her heart and soul into her work, creating pieces that were not just beautiful but also full of life, much like Jane herself. She was not only a master of stonework but also of crocheting and sewing, creating intricate, beautiful pieces that were cherished by all who received them. Jane's compassion was woven into every stitch, and her dedication was embedded in every stone she laid. After retiring from R & J Stone, she used her creative talents to serve her family and friends, always putting their needs before her own.

Jane's life revolved around her family, her love for them as vast as the oceans she sailed. She was a loving wife to Richard Abbott; a supportive mother to her children, Richard Reed (Pam), Debbie Brindo (Dan), Chelsea Frew (David), and Chad Abbott; and a doting grandmother to Dalton (Ciara), Alexandria (Zack), Cosmo, Isaac, her grandchildren, the beacons of her life. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her compassionate nature made her a pillar of strength for her family, her love their safe harbor.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Joseph Kiddy; and her daughters, Nora Ashley and Briana Abbott; two brothers and one sister. As Helen Keller once said, “What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us.” This quote truly embodies Jane's life. Her love has become a part of everyone she touched, her spirit living on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A gathering for friends and family will be held at Jane and Richard's home from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

We would love to honor Jane's life and legacy by sharing memories and pictures. We invite you to leave your memories and upload photos of Jane to the memorial page. As we remember Jane, let us celebrate the compassionate, dedicated, supportive, and adventurous woman she was, and let us keep her spirit alive in our hearts.
