Gregory Thomas Dobert, Sr. Obituary (1965 - 2025)

Gregory Thomas Dobert, affectionately known by family and friends as Gregg, was born on September 10, 1965, in Schenectady, NY, USA. His life was a testament to his dedication, intelligence, and love for his family. He was a man who could fix anything, create beautiful furniture from raw wood, lose himself in a good book, and root for his favorite teams, the Rams and the Dodgers, with fervor. He passed away on December 8, 2025, leaving behind a life that was rich in experiences, love, and accomplishments. Gregg was a "jack of all trades" who had an impressive capacity for learning and retaining knowledge on numerous subjects. He was a smart man, known for his dry sense of humor and for always saying, "Life is all about choices." He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps (Semper Fi) and was a dedicated employee in every job he held. In New York, he owned and operated his lawn care company and worked in public works for Scotia, New York, and the Albany airport. Later, in New Bern, North Carolina, he became the Facility Director for the YMCA, where he was recognized for his strong work ethic and commitment to getting things done. Gregg loved decorating his yard for Christmas, channeling his inner "Clark Griswold" and putting on an impressive display every year. He was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for history and murder mysteries. He loved boating and spending time on the water, making his years at the Lake House at Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks particularly treasured. He also enjoyed traveling, finding new places and cultures fascinating. Gregg is survived by loving wife of 41 years, Dianne Dobert; his children, Gregory Thomas Dobert, Jr. (Amanda), Michael Spencer Orlando-Dobert (Joseph), and Nicholas Rielly Dobert (Jasmine); his father, Howard Dobert; and his siblings, Debbie Kruman (Larry), Gary Dobert (Rosanne), Mark Dobert (Michelle), and Mindy Geier (Ken); grandchildren, Jordan, Parker, Jackson, Denny, Jonathan, and one more on the way. Gregg was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Dobert. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. They were his pride and joy, the cornerstone of his existence.
