Elise Harden Lanier

Elise Harden Lanier, 88, of New Bern, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. Elise was a woman of deep faith, a cherished friend, and a beacon of resilience and strength. Her life, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering belief in the power of faith and family, was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her favorite passage of scripture was Psalm 34, which included the following verse: “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Elise was an excellent cook, loved thrift shopping and had a keen eye for hidden gems. She enjoyed bold, sparkling jewelry. Her appreciation for beautiful pieces led her to a successful career in the jewelry industry, where she spent many years helping others shine. Elise was a dedicated member of the Calvary Baptist Church in New Bern, where she found solace and strength in her faith.

Elise was a loving wife to the late Thomas Lanier and a devoted mother to her three children, Paula Lanier Reid, Rita Lanier, and Neil Lanier, all of whom preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in death by her parents, L.B. Harden and Rebecca Dent Wareing and grandson, B.J. Lanier. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sisters, Beckie Pind and Robin Jackson; 5 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Elise's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in her journey.

The family invites you to join them for a time of visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1821 Rhem Avenue, New Bern, NC 28560. The visitation will be followed by a funeral service which will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor John Keeter officiating. Elise will be laid to rest at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
