New Bern, North Carolina
Elise Clippinger, 64, of New Bern passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026 after a multi-year battle with cancer. She left behind a life marked by devotion to her family, generosity toward others, and a passionate love for travelling the world.
Elise was born and raised in New Bern, NC. During her childhood she spent summers in Oriental, racing sailboats on the Neuse River with her family. As an adult she enjoyed weekends out on the water with her husband, daughter, and sister’s family. While she lived for some time in Mount Pleasant, SC and Guanacaste, Costa Rica, she always returned to the state and waters she called home.
She graduated from Appalachian State University in 1986 with a degree in Graphic Arts and Printing Production Management. Elise's love for art was lifelong. She thrived in the jobs that allowed her to be creative–from screen printing T-shirts to designing, developing, and decorating homes with her husband Mark. Nowhere was her appreciation for the arts more obvious than in her own home, which was an ever-evolving testament to her passion.
Over the years Elise’s travels took her all over the world. She visited numerous countries in Europe, Asia, and Central America. The crystalline waters and diverse cuisines of the Mediterranean were particular favorites. With each trip her collection of art grew, each piece a treasured memory.
Elise was, above all, a giver. She gave freely of her time, energy, and talents. When her parents and sister faced hardship and needed care and support, Elise was there for them. She could often be found doing something simply because it would bring happiness to someone else. For many years, she would spend days during each holiday season—sometimes nearly around the clock—making an assortment of sweets to give to family and friends. It was one of many ways she showed her love: through the things she made, the care she gave, and the time she devoted to others.
Elise is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Mark Clippinger; her daughter, Claudia Clippinger; her brothers, Robert Gryb and Charles Gryb; and several nieces and nephews.
With her passing, she has been reunited with her parents, Charles and Betty Gryb, and her sister, Elizabeth Antry.
Elise will be remembered for the passion with which she lived, the family she cared for so deeply, and the many ways—large and small—she made the people around her feel loved.
