Effie Raper

Effie Lamm Raper, age 85, of New Bern, passed from this life, and into her heavenly home on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at Highland Park Christian Church. She will be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

Effie was born in New Bern, North Carolina, on August 22, 1938 to Madie, and Clyde Lamm. She attended and graduated from New Bern High School. She went on to work at Kress, a little Dime store in the small town of New Bern. It was after this that she began her fulfilling 32 year career at Carolina Telephone, and retired in January of 1994.

Effie was a member Highland Park Christian Church, where she enjoyed worshipping the Lord along with her church family.

Effie was known by “Nana” and loved by many. She loved few things more than being outdoors. You could find her admiring the butterflies, feeding the ducks, or walking her dog, Bo-Bo. She enjoyed Wednesday afternoon lunches at Burger King with her sister- Aggie, and their friends. After living in Tennessee for a few years, she enjoyed going back to the mountains during the month of October, to listen to Southern Gospel music, and visit Dollywood. Effie was a creative woman and loved painting when her great niece Taylor would come visit her. They would paint rocks, and color puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Morris; husband, Earl “Bum” Morris; husband, Ed Raper, parents Clyde and Madie Lamm; her siblings Chuck Lamm, Jimmy Lamm, and Butch Lamm; and her nephew, Matt Anderson.

She is survived by her sister, Aggie Jackson; sister in law, Anne Lamm; nieces Beth Anderson Austin (Cliff), and Michelle Anderson; great niece, Taylor Jones; great nephew, Brad Anderson, and many other family members and friends.
