A lifelong musician, he skillfully played the flute, violin, penny whistle, harmonica, and ukulele, sharing his talents with many and participating in the Pamlico Flutes ensemble in Oriental, NC, for a decade. His adventurous spirit led him to sail extensively, cruising from Lake Erie through the Hudson and down the Intracoastal Waterway to Key West and the West Coast of Florida.

He was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, NC, where his faith and community involvement were unwavering. An amateur radio operator and avid reader, Denton continued to explore new interests, studying Latin and trigonometry in his spare time.
