Claire Wachsmuth

–

New Bern, North Carolina

Claire Elizabeth Wachsmuth, born on May 14, 1935, in New York City, was a beacon of love and generosity whose magnetic presence left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Claire was the embodiment of compassion and inspiration, a woman who lived her life with a boundless spirit and an extraordinary capacity to love. A devoted Catholic and a member of the Saint Paul Catholic Church, her life was guided by the verse from Corinthians (1 Corinthians 16:14), "Let all that you do be done in love."

Claire's life journey began as an only child in Jamaica, New York, born to William and Anne Farrell Orton. She spent the majority of her life in New York before moving to New Bern, North Carolina, in 2000. Her career as an administrative assistant with AT&T showcased her dedication and work ethic, but it was her personal life that truly defined her. Claire was a woman of many passions. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life; playing card games, from rummy cubes to pinochle, traveling with her late husband, delighting in the thrill of casinos, and challenging herself with crossword puzzles. Her crocheted keepsakes, crafted with love and care, are cherished reminders of her generosity and love.

Claire was a loving mother to Bill Wachsmuth (Holly Smolinski) and Debi Krukowski (Jim); cherished grandmother to Alexandra, Olivia (Caleb), Frank (Emily), and Theresa (Michael); as well as a doting great grandmother, Vivian, Quinn, and Eloise. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anne Farrell Orton.

In every role she played, Claire brought a warmth and selflessness that was truly inspiring. Whether as a devoted daughter, a loving mother, or a welcoming hostess with an open heart and an open table, she exemplified kindness and hospitality. She leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Saint Paul Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In remembering Claire, we invite you to share your memories and upload your photos of her on the memorial page. Each story, each picture is a testament to a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Let us celebrate her life and the love she so generously shared with us all.
