Carolyn Mewborn

Carolyn Sue Wahl Mewborn, 81, of Havelock, passed away quietly on Tuesday January 20, 2026, in Grantsboro, North Carolina. She will be sorely missed by her friends, family, and others who lives she touched.

Carolyn was the daughter of Esther Irene Truax Wahl and Francis George “Fritz” Wahl of Canton Ohio.

She was a retired Craven county home health nurse who was loved by many of her patients over the years. Having four children, she was quick to open her doors to their friends in need while they were growing up. She enjoyed volunteering at Outreach and attending mass at Annunciation Catholic Church, but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved the holidays and birthdays and tried to celebrate and impress their meaning on to others. Her macaroni salad will be missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her brother Chuck, her parents and her sister Janet of Stark county Ohio. She is survived by her sister Betty Art; her daughter Deborah Downey of Ogden Utah and her children Ashley Burbank (spouse Mike Burbank), Jack Groncki, and Abigail Groncki of Ogden Utah; great grandchild Avery Burbank of Ogden, Utah; her son Joseph Downey and spouse Lisa Downey of New Bern, NC; her son Arthur Downey of Havelock, NC and his son Tyler Downey of Ocracoke,NC; her son James Downey and spouse Brianna Bernal of Havelock, NC.
