New Bern, North Carolina
Carl Glenwood “Glen” Edwards, 81, of the Spring Garden community in New Bern, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Born on June 27, 1944, Glen was known and loved by all who met him. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, strong faith, and deep love for his family.
Glen was married for 60 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Virginia Hinson Edwards. Together, they built a strong and loving family that will carry on his legacy for generations to come.
Glen proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). His time in the Navy sparked a lifelong love of travel and adventure. Whether serving his country overseas or later traveling across the nation with Virginia in their RV, he cherished seeing new places and making lasting memories along the way.
Before his retirement, Glen was a respected business owner, operating BLG Electrical Supply Company in New Bern and Triangle Electrical Supply in Henderson and High Point, North Carolina. Through his work, he earned the trust and respect of his community and colleagues.
Glen was a faithful member of Spring Garden Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life. He also faithfully served others through Baptist Men's Disaster Relief, volunteering as part of a disaster relief team and offering help and encouragement to those facing difficult times.
Family was always at the center of Glen’s life. When his children were young, he treasured family camping trips and the special memories made around campgrounds and campfires. He loved the water and found peace in being near it—whether boating, fishing, or simply sitting along the shore enjoying God’s creation. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren, riding golf carts and tractors through the yard and sharing laughter and adventures together. Glen also had a special admiration for eagles, the majestic birds, symbolizing strength, freedom, and beauty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Polly and Talmadge Edwards; and his siblings, Ray Edwards, Raymond Edwards, Ruby Neil, Rachel Burroughs, James Edwards, Billy Edwards, Bobby Edwards, and Douglas Edwards.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Virginia Edwards; his daughters, Pam Edwards and Lori Jones (Graham); his grandchildren, Brittany Karnes (James), Jason Jones (Tart), Justin Jones (Ashley), Joshua Jones, and Jessica Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Bristol Karnes, Kiersten Karnes, Ellie Jones, and one more, Noah Jones, who is set to arrive soon.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Spring Garden Baptist Church with Pastors David McAnelly and Mike Scott officiating. The family will receive friends just prior to the service in the sanctuary from 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. Following the service, Glen will be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who provided care, support, and friendship during Glen’s journey. A special thank you is extended to his niece, Beverly Clark, and nephew, Tim Burroughs; Erica Fields and Ashley Farmer; his physicians, Dr. Townarnicky, Dr. Holmes, Dr. Carroll, Dr. Barr, and Dusty Scott; the Physical Therapy Department of the Veterans Home in Kinston; and the dedicated team of Craven County Hospice. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Craven County Hospice through the CCHD Foundation or to Spring Garden Baptist Church in memory of Glen Edwards.
Glen will be remembered for his kindness, his strong work ethic, his servant’s heart, and the love he shared so freely with his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
