New Bern, North Carolina
Brenda Faye Norman passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born September 16, 1942, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, Brenda lived a full life defined by resilience, generosity, and love for her family.
Brenda loved cute shoes, reading, cross stitch, puzzling and state fairs. She had a soft spot for Winnie the Pooh — her trips to Disney World and breakfast with Pooh bear at the Crystal Palace brought her real joy. She was a beach girl at heart, rarely without her flip flops. Her dogs Bruiser and then Bubba were her faithful companions, and she loved Goober dearly as one of the family too. But nothing mattered to her more than her family.
Brenda was a nurse through and through. At 40, she went back to school to get her LPN, a decision that says everything about who she was. She spent years caring for others with the same warmth and no-nonsense kindness she brought to everything. In retirement, she and her husband hit the road in their RV, traveling up and down the East Coast with a favorite trip to Prince Edward Island. She later moved to New Bern, NC to be closer to her daughter, Lissa. In later years, she spent time with family in Antigua and New York City and greatly enjoyed those adventures.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 65 years, Fred Norman. Just days before she passed, when he walked into her room, Brenda was asked who he was — she simply smiled and said, "My man." It was a nickname that captured 65 years of devotion in two words. She is also survived by her children, Kim Mallin(Bob), Melissa Norman (Sandy), and John Norman. She'll be remembered for her sass, her generosity, and the way she loved her people without reservation.
The family is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and aides of PruittHealth Hospice of New Bern, NC, for the compassionate care, as well as the professional and kind care that the staff from SYNERGY HomeCare provided for Brenda in her final days.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Brenda's memory to PruittHealth Hospice of New Bern, NC.
We invite everyone who knew and loved Brenda to share their memories and photos on her memorial page. It is through these shared moments of love, laughter, and remembrance that the story of a life well lived continues to be told, keeping Brenda’s memory close in the hearts of all who knew her.
