Betty Collins DeCamp

–

New Bern, North Carolina

Betty Collins DeCamp of New Bern, North Carolina, born on July 21, 1942, passed away on November 3, 2024. Known for her dedicated service and resilience, Betty, a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was a beacon of faith and kindness in her community. As a reliable and detail-oriented administrative assistant at the Agricultural Extension Service, Betty served her community diligently for 30 years. She was renowned for her systematic approach and keen attention to detail, leaving no room for nonsense.

In her leisure time, Betty was a thoughtful and loving individual who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an enthusiastic patron of the arts, often seen at plays in Downtown New Bern. An accomplished cook, Betty delighted her family with a variety of treats, including her famous crab dip and specialty desserts, especially during Christmas. Her home was a hub for family and friends, characterized by the warmth of her hospitality and the richness of her love. As the Bible says in Proverbs 31:28, "Her children rise up and call her blessed," Betty's love and dedication for her family were truly her greatest achievements.

Betty was a faithful member of Stonewall United Methodist Church and later Riverside United Methodist Church where she fellowshipped and attended meetings with the United Methodist Women's group. Her faith was a testament to her character, mirroring the words in Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."

Betty is survived by her children Mechelle Spain Banks (Tom), Alton “Bud” Spain, Jr., and Marc Spain (Kathy); her step-son Burney DeCamp (Anita); brothers Bill Collins (Linda) and Bobby Collins (Johnnie); her sister Amy Bell; her grandchildren Brian DeCamp, Brooke Verduzco (Danny), Cody Spain (Ally), and Cole Spain; and her great-grandchildren Bailey Spain and Boden Spain. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Irene Collins, her sister Linda Collins, her husband Robert DeCamp, and her beloved dog Bambi.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel, 900 River Road, New Bern, North Carolina 28562. The family will receive friends following the service.
