Betty Ingrid Benson

Betty Ingrid Benson of New Bern left her earthly bonds on Sunday, July 20, 2025. She was born to Erik Vilhelm Buch, a Danish immigrant, and her Kentucky born mother, Dixie Iris Foster in Washington, D.C. on March 18, 1933.

Raised in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park, Maryland area, she graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1951. She met her future husband, Kenneth while still in high school and they married on May 30, 1954 at First Baptist Church in Silver Spring. Prior to having her children, she worked for the United States Government at the Atomic Energy Commission.

Her husband preceded her in death on April 23, 2025 and her sister, Joan Seaberg, passed in 2019. Betty was a devoted Mother, faithful wife, and friend to all who knew her. She loved her savior, Jesus Christ, and has now gone home to meet him, and reunite with her beloved husband. Surviving and left to mourn her passing are her children, Diana Lee Dolan and her husband William of New Bern, Kraig Randall Benson and wife Barbara of Charles Town, WV, and Karen Louise McKenzie of Cleveland, GA. There are seven grandchildren, Jennifer Dolan Hebb and her husband Richard of Tucson, AZ, Patrick Dolan of Ruckersville, VA, Melissa Dolan and her fiancé Derek Matuszczak of Richmond, VA, Kristen Wing Stevenson and her husband Nick of Jefferson, GA, Jason Wing and his wife Azar of Denver, CO, Christopher Benson of Martinsburg, WV, and Daniel Benson of Charles Town, WV. In addition, there are ten great grandchildren with an 11th due in August. She is also survived by her half-brother Kenneth Eric Buch, and half-sister, Liane Emery. Lastly, she will be missed by her special companion, Katie the cat.

Funeral service for both Betty and Kenneth Benson will be held at Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. In Betty's memory, donations are requested in lieu of flowers, to be sent to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
