Anna Scarpati

–

New Bern, North Carolina

Anna Louise Bernadette McDonald Scarpati, beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, compassionate caregiver, returned to the lord on May 9, 2026. Born on All Saints Day, November 1st, 1966, at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York City, Anna was raised in Mount Vernon, New York, by her beloved parents, Stella Krampa McDonald and Walter McDonald. She met the love of her life, Gennaro Scarpati, through a humorous accident in 1983 where she sat in his open convertible and crushed his hat. In 1984, she graduated from Mount Vernon High School and initially worked in finance with RH Donnelly before discovering her life’s passion: nursing. Anna loved helping others, especially children, and she would always make time to assist or give medical advice to everyone from family to complete strangers.

The only thing Anna loved more than helping people was her family. Nothing was more important to her than the health and well-being of her children, who she encouraged and taught as best as she could to be good people. She loved to have fun, whether that meant listening to a wide variety of music, playing baseball, going to a museum, going to the movies (and occasionally sneaking into one), or just playing hooky and going for a scenic drive. She had a keen appreciation of history and loved to learn, ceaselessly watching documentaries and reading about a vast array of subjects.

She is survived by her husband Gennaro, her sons Andrew, Michael, and Peter, her brother Peter McDonald, her sister Susan Tellier, and her nephews and nieces, Kate McDonald-D’Angelone, Kevin McDonald, Liam McDonald, and Moravia Henry.

No matter the struggles and adversities she faced in life, she always remained an optimist and kept her faith in God. She was a sunny presence in every room she entered, and she will be missed. There will be a mass at Saint Paul Catholic Church in New Bern, on May 28th, 2026. A celebration of life will also take place in New York at a later date.

Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care is honored to serve the family and friends of Anna Louise Bernadette McDonald Scarpati.
