New Bern, North Carolina
Ann moved with Michael to the Notre Dame area shortly after their marriage, where she worked in the Elkhart High School system and ultimately took responsibility for their theatre program. We made some of our oldest and dearest friends in Indiana. When we bought our first home, it was across from another recently married couple who, like us, ultimately relocated to New Bern, North Carolina, in retirement. Before we left Indiana, both Ann and I received advanced degrees from Notre Dame, further strengthening our lifelong bond with the university.
After pursuing jobs that took us to New Jersey and the San Francisco Bay Area, Ann worked for various newspapers and ultimately became a highly regarded consultant in investor relations, helping to support the rapidly growing technology industry in the Bay Area. Eventually, job opportunities and career moves took us to other places throughout the country.
In retirement, we were fortunate enough to purchase an oceangoing sailing vessel, Night Flight, which sailed both coasts. For almost two decades, it became our regular home away from home and provided us with countless adventures and memories.
Ann’s time in Fairfield Harbour was, of course, marked by her continued love and participation in theatre. She chaired the Harbour Lights Players for a couple of seasons and remained actively involved in the community.
Alzheimer’s ultimately took Ann from us at the age of 83. She was blessed with old and dear friends wherever life took her, and we have been touched to hear from so many of them. Friends and family are encouraged to share their own stories and under the memories tab on this page.
She is survived by Sherie Burke and Gib Poiry. In lieu of flowers, her friends and extended family are encouraged to support a charity of their choice in her memory.
Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care is honored to serve the family and friends of Ann Louise McDougall.
